Letter from Nikos Maziotis
I am very well and I wish the same for you. I am writing to inform you about the situation here.
Hello, comrades!
I am very well and I wish the same for you. I am writing to inform you about the situation here.
I have recently been transferred to a high security prison (type C) in Domokos. I was the first prisoner to be transferred here and after me they have transferred a number of other political and social prisoners. For the time being, the conditions of the imprisonment here are not different from other prisons. The penitentiary code remains the same for all types of prisons, A, B and C. There are no special conditions of detention here, but the law, as regards the prisoners detained in a type-C prison, is harder than the law for prisoners detained in type-A or B prisons. In particular, the law states that prisoners in type-C prisons, who are sentenced for life, must be detained for 20 years, that is 4 more years than those who are detained in type-A or B prisons. The same law states that prisoners in type-C prisons do not have the right to work inside the prison, do not have the right to a reduction of their sentence nor to take a few days leave from the prison.
As regards the injury of my right arm, there has been substantial progress. Every month I must be taken to hospital for a medical examination.
I would now like to inform you about some actions here. There have been proposed and organized 4 public manifestations in 4 cities in Greece, in Thessaloniki, Athens, Heraklion of Crete and Patras, by 4 anarchist groups with the issue of “Arm Struggle, Revolutionary Movement and Social Revolution”, where I addressed the comrades by telephone from the prison in Thessaloniki. The purpose of this public manifestations was to show the connection between arm struggle and revolutionary movement, that the arm struggle and urban guerilla is a part of the struggle for the subversion of the regime, and a part of the revolution, and that necessary for the revolution is the existence of an organized revolutionary movement with a clear political program about the subversion of the capitalistic state and about the revolutionary reconstruction. These public manifestations were very successful, with the participation of many comrades and many aspects of the issue were discussed. The state attempted to stop me from speaking to the second public manifestation in Athens on the 17th October, when a parliamentary representative asked to outlaw the manifestation and so they shut down the telephones in the section I was detained in the Thessaloniki prison and I could not communicate and address the comrades. However the public manifestation in Athens took place as programmed and also the comrade Pola Roupa sent a text that was read about the issue. The public manifestation of Athens was repeated on the 5th November when I, finally, addressed the comrades. The rest of the public manifestations took place without any other problems on the 21st November in Heraklion and on the 3rd December in Patras. The first of them was on the 9th October in Thessaloniki. I also spoke about the same issue on a radio that supports the movement, Radio “Revolt” of Thessaloniki.
I also want to inform you that, following my proposal, the comrades created a solidarity structure named “ Solidarity Assembly” for political prisoners in Greece, militant detainees and persecuted fighters. The Solidarity Assembly has already published a platform about the solidarity. The terms of this platform include all militant detainees and persecuted in Greece, the anarchist and communist prisoners including the Turkish communists of DHKP who are detained in Greece and those comrades who are outlaws and have been accused of armed struggle. There is an exception, however, for those who have cooperated with the state, have given information to the police and have made repentant statements about the arm struggle.
In my opinion, the Solidarity Assembly for political prisoners and militant detainees and persecuted in Greece and the Red Help International should get in contact about solidarity issues.
I suppose that you have been informed about the political situation in Greece, about the fall of Samaras government, the elections on the 25th January 2015 and about the possibility for the government to pass into the hands of the center-left party of the official opposition.
With revolutionary greetings from the prison in Domokos, Greece,
Nikos Maziotis
