Solidarity with Georges Ibrahim Abdallah
Georges Ibrahim Abdallah is a lebanese communist militant. He is now 63 years old and has been arrested in Lyon in 1984.
He has been sentenced to life imprisonment for several actions which have been claimed by the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions (LARF). On 2014, 24th October, his 31st year in jail will begin.
He opposed the Israeli invasion of Liban in 1978 and fought beside the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
He could be released since 1999. His continued captivity is a political choice of the French state, backed by Israel and the United States. Thereupon, the DST (Direction de la Surveillance du Territoire, present DGSI - Directorate of Territorial Surveillance) said in 2007: ‘As he is an emblematic figure of the anti-zionist struggle, the release would undoubtedly be considered as an event in Lebanon. He will probably be celebrated as a hero when he’ll go back to his country, but also by different circle of influence engaged in the revolutionary struggle’.
In April 2013, his eighth bail request has be rejected after many politco-legal moves showing, once gain, this will to prevent his release. Unrelenting anti-imperialist and pro-Palestinian militant, this stubbornness represses his refusal to deny his positions.
In March 2014, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah has filed another request to obtain a conditional release. After months of mobilisation in support with the Palestinian people, the struggle must carry on and amplify for the release of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, who is a great symbol of this fight.
On September, 29th, he appeared in Tribunal d’Application des Peines (Sentence Enforcement Court). Once again, the prosecutor opposed to the request, as did the lawyer of the plaintiffs, representing the United States. The Tribunal d’Application des Peines will render his judgement on November, 5th.
All solidarity mobilisations are welcome all along the month, especially between October 20th and 25th. There has already been gathering in Lannemezan, in Lille and in Loos-en-Gobelle as well as in Tunis.
Other gatherings are scheduled, once again in Lannemezan, but also in Bordeaux and in Brussels.
This fight for the liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah also meets the fight for the release of all the Palestinian prisoners, fight in which he regularly takes part.
Be sure that only a strong popular mobilisation will make Georges Abdallh free from jail.
